Spaces for Learning in Contemporary Metropolitan Cities Rethinking Authorship Through Collaborative Processes and Design Narratives
Abstract
In contemporary metropolitan cities, school spaces are no longer static containers of knowledge transmission but are evolving into dynamic social infrastructures. The research project Spaces for Learning in Contemporary Metropolitan Cities explores the transformation of school spaces into adaptive environments that respond to pedagogical, social and environmental needs of contemporary cities. Through a multidisciplinary approach integrating spatial, pedagogical, technical and regulatory dimensions, the research challenges the static concept of school buildings, proposing dynamic, flexible and resilient spaces. The contribution investigates a reframed concept of authorship as a methodological tool, guiding the researcher to mediate between academic knowledge, administrative constraints and architectural practices, fostering the co-creation of shared spatial narratives. The research unfolds through an iterative process linking theory and practice, focusing on transforming Milan’s school heritage and designing adaptable strategies that address contemporary educational and administrative challenges.
