‘Making-with’ Transdisciplinary Experiments in Authorship

Abstract

This paper sets out from a sympoietic understanding of authorship as an ongoing, collaborative process of constant evolution. It explores how literary strategies and material procedures, including text and image manipulation, can be integrated into architectural pedagogy as a way to stimulate students and practitioners to critically reconsider authorship and originality when working with the existing built environment. Through a series of experimental workshops, it investigates how reciprocal transdisciplinary borrowing between literature and architecture can influence adaptive reuse practices and design thinking, reflecting on possible future applications and implications.
